About Us
The Perth Kids Shed is a small business owned and operated by Tracey Laird and run out of her home workshop in Midvale, Western Australia. Tracey is a qualified Childcare Educator and Furniture Maker. She spent 12 years working with Children all around the world in many capacities before training in Woodwork at The Australian School of Fine Wood in Dwellingup.
Since graduating in 2009, Tracey worked for the Perth Wood School which runs a full schedule of courses for adults. Tracey is passionate about helping children to discover a love of woodwork and offering a unique set of classes and courses to grow the next generation of creators.
The Perth Kids Shed opened in 2018 and is a place where children are inspired to discover, explore and create in a safe and fun environment. The Kids Shed is focused on teaching children woodworking skills but occasionally we may delve into the realms of other materials to create our masterpieces.
Apart from making beautiful wood creations, your child will also be learning many other skills. Woodworking involves a great deal of mathematics, hand-eye coordination, problem solving and creative thinking. Each set of projects are interesting, fun to make and developmentally appropriate for the ages of the children involved. Learning to use tools is not only a great way to start a new hobby, it also empowers your child with valuable life skills.
Perth Kids Shed offers a comprehensive term programme during the school term as well as intensive classes and parties during the school holidays and on weekends. The Kids Shed also offers private tuition for home schooled children as well as those wishing to undertake more substantial projects. Term classes run on an 8 week term beginning one week after school starts.
